After watchingthe impactful Hindi movie ‘12th Fail,’ I found myself deeply moved by the journey of Manoj Kumar Sharma, brilliantly brought to life by Vikrant Massey, based on Anurag Pathak’s novel. From his humble beginnings and extreme poverty, Sharma rises to become an Indian Police Officer (IPS), showcasing resilience, hard work, perseverance, and determination. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film elegantly captivates its audience, especially UPSC aspirants, inviting them to immerse themselves in this inspiring tale. The experience was both moving and inspiring.

I’m not going to explain the movie, but the tagline of the movie says ‘restart.’ UPSC means Union Public Service Commission, the exam to become a higher government official. There are 3 levels: prelims, mains, and interview, and there are only a limited number of attempts for each person, i.e., 4 for general students and 6 for backward students. For the students who write for UPSC, even if they fail, they have to start from zero. Hence the tagline ‘restart.’ Many people lack motivation if they fail once in achieving their dreams.

There is a person in the movie who the hero of the movie admires. He failed in all of his attempts, but he also didn’t get demotivated. He opened a tea stall and gave tips and advice to the students who were preparing for their prelims. I was really inspired by his courage to live. He said, ‘Zindagi mein haarna zaroori hai, taaki jeetne ki koshish aur bhi meethi lage.’ (‘It is necessary to lose in life so that the effort to win becomes even sweeter.’)

Failing an exam doesn’t mean your life has to end. Every end is a fresh restart. It isn’t easy, even for the hero, to achieve his dreams. He failed, failed, and achieved his dreams. He also faced many obstacles, but he kept pushing forward. The hero said, ‘Agar safalta itni aasan hoti, toh sabhi ko mil jati. Asli jeet wahi hai jo har baar gir kar uthne se milti hai.’ (‘If success were so easy, everyone would get it. True victory is what you achieve by rising after every fall.’)

It means ‘12th Fail’ conveys a powerful message: failure is not the end, but a new beginning. It’s a reminder that our dreams are worth pursuing, no matter how many times we stumble. The movie inspired me to see every failure as an opportunity to restart and grow stronger, emphasizing that true success comes from perseverance and an unwavering belief in oneself.”

Reflecting on the movie, I gleaned several profound lessons:

First Lesson: Small moments can trigger profound change. When Sharma witnesses the repercussions of dishonesty, it reinforces the importance of integrity and staying true to oneself.

Second Lesson: Unexpected challenges often lead to hidden blessings. When Sharma’s bag is stolen, it leads him to a meaningful friendship, highlighting the power of optimism and finding silver linings in adversity.

Third Lesson: The film beautifully underscores the crucial role of emotional support from family, friends, and loved ones in shaping our journey towards success. It emphasizes the impact of our relationships and environment on our resilience and determination.

Fourth Lesson: Despite facing financial struggles, the protagonist learns the value of hard work and maintaining hope, especially during tough times.

Fifth Lesson: The movie inspires a spirit of resilience and the courage to start afresh, urging us to pursue our goals with renewed vigor whenever needed.

Sixth Lesson: Constructive criticism becomes a catalyst for growth and self-improvement. When Sharma’s writing skills are challenged, he embraces it as an opportunity to learn and grow, showcasing the power of resilience and adaptability.

These lessons collectively weave a narrative of resilience, integrity, optimism, support, perseverance, and self-improvement, making ‘12th Fail’ a profoundly moving and inspiring cinematic experience.

In conclusion, ‘12th Fail’ reminds us that failure is not the end but a stepping stone towards success. It teaches us to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks, and emerge stronger and more determined to achieve our dreams. As the hero of the movie said, ‘Zindagi mein haarna zaroori hai, taaki jeetne ki koshish aur bhi meethi lage.’ (‘It is necessary to lose in life so that the effort to win becomes even sweeter.
